Late Winston-Salem rally dashes Sox 6-2

SALEM, Virginia (June 28, 2019) - Thad Ward dazzled in his home debut, striking out seven Dash, but an eigth-inning onslaught boosted Winston-Salem 6-2 over the Salem Red Sox Friday night at Haley Toyota Field.

How it Happened
* Tanner Nishioka led-off the second inning with a single and stretched into third base after a failed Dash pick-off attempt. Nick Lovullo ground out to score Nishioka and the Sox took a 1-0 lead.
* Salem extended 2-0 in the fourth frame. Edgar Corcino legged out a triple and Marcus Wilson brought him home with a single.
* The Dash cut the lead when Mitch Roman doubled in the sixth inning and came home on a sacrifice fly.
* Thaddeus Ward finished after six innings. The righty allowed just one run on five hits and struck out seven Dash in his debut at Haley Toyota Field.
* Trouble struck Salem as Winston-Salem batted around in the eighth inning. Carlos Perez knotted the tilt with a sacrifice fly, Craig Dedelow and Tate Blackman contributed a run each with a pair of singles and Mitch Roman cemented the lead on a two-run single to advance 6-2.

Noteworthy
* Ward's outing was his first at Haley Toyota Field and a foil to his last in Kinston after walking seven Wood Ducks. He has permitted just one run in each start.
