Trey Supak turned in another efficient start on Friday night at The Ballpark at Jackson, but the Biloxi Shuckers (40-28) lost a lead in the middle innings and fell to the Jackson Generals (38-30) for a third straight night, 4-3. Shuckers pitching held the opposition to just three hits, but one big swing from Jamie Westbrook proved the difference maker as Biloxi dropped their first series since May 5th against Pensacola.
Trent Grisham opened the scoring in the second inning with a sacrifice fly off Conner Grey that plated Max McDowell and gave the Shuckers a 1-0 lead. Supak worked four scoreless innings and was given a 2-0 lead after Weston Wilson hit his 11th home run of the season in the fifth inning. Bilox's right-hander did not allow a hit until Jazz Chisholm tripled in the fifth with one out. Ramon Hernandez then scored Chisholm with a productive groundout to inch the Generals within a run. Supak allowed the lone hit over his five innings, struck out four but did not factor into the decision.
Drew Rasmussen (L,1-2) entered from the bullpen behind Supak and recorded an out but found himself in a bases-loaded situation following catcher's interference and a pair of walks. Westbrook came to the plate and tucked a ball inside of first base that rolled into the right-field corner for a bases-clearing double to give Jackson a 4-2 lead. Aaron Kurcz and Luke Barker prevented any further damage, combining for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while the offense worked to respond.
An eighth inning rally was strung together as Bruce Caldwell doubled and C.J. Hinojosa walked to put two runners on against Kevin McCanna (W, 3-3), facing McDowell. The catcher connected for a single to score Caldwell but Hinojosa, the tying run, was stranded on third with the bases loaded after Jake Gatewood struck out to end the inning. Damien Magnifico (S,3) came on in the ninth, struck out two, and retired the side in order to end the game.
