Friday marked the second time during this week’s series with Portland where Somerset registered double-digit hits, and 11th time this season.
RHP Zach Messinger (6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K) earned his second consecutive win, allowing only 1 ER over 6 IP with 3 K. Over his last four outings since 4/28 @REA, Messinger has posted a 2.12 ERA with 21 K over 21.2 IP.
3B DJ LeMahieu (1-for-2) commenced his second rehab assignment of the season with Somerset on Friday, seeing two at-bats and three innings at 3B. LeMahieu grounded an infield single in the 1st inning to push across the Patriots the first run of the ballgame.
CF Grant Richardson (2-for-5, 2R HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) gave Somerset a 6-2 lead with a two-run blast in the 5th inning for his third homer of the season. Richardson is 4-for-13 with 5 RBI and 3 R in 3 G vs. Portland during this week’s series. Richardson’s ten multi-hit games this season are second on the team to only Ben Cowles. SS Ben Cowles (2-for-4, RBI, 2 2B, BB) extended the Patriots lead to 4-2 with an RBI double in the 5th inning. Friday marked Cowles team leading 11th multi-hit performance of the season. The Yankees No. 29 prospect extended his on-base streak to 8 G, over which he’s 8-for-23 (.347) with 5 RBI, 3 R, and 3 2B. After adding a pair on Friday, Cowles 13 2B this season place 2nd in the Eastern League.
RF Elijah Dunham (2-for-2, R, 2 BB, SB) reached base in all four trips to the plate, adding a stolen base. Over 3 G during this week’s series vs. Portland, Dunham is 5-for-9 (.555) with 2 RBI. Over his last 6 G dating back to 5/9 @ALT, Dunham is 8-for-18 (.500) with 4 RBI, 3 R, and 3 BB.
