Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Thayron Liranzo homered and the bullpen fired four hitless innings on Friday night, as the Quakes returned to the win-column with a 10-4 victory over San Jose at LoanMart Field.
Liranzo blasted a two-run homer in the first and then had an RBI double as part of a decisive five-run third, as the Quakes blew open a one-run game against Giants’ reliever Luis Moreno.
Liranzo’s 16th homer of the year came off Giants’ starter Mauricio Estrella, making it 2-0.
Rancho didn’t hold the lead though, as the Giants tied it against Peter Heubeck in the second.
The Quakes went right back to work in the third though, taking advantage of multiple Giants’ errors. Joe Vetrano capped the three-run third with a two-out, two-run single, making it 5-2 against Estrella (0-1).
Heubeck (3-5) gave up four runs in total over five innings, with three of them being earned.
Jon Edwards, Garrett McDaniels and Madison Jeffrey combined for shutout work the rest of the way, as the trio went four innings without allowing a San Jose hit.
The Quakes (13-15, 52-42) will send Christian Romero (5-0) to the mound on Saturday, as he takes on San Jose’s Gerelmi Maldonado (1-1) at 6:30pm.
