Tenemos el caso de Ángel Macías que por cierto pasa por un momento difícil, él y su familia, su salud es muy delicada. Se encuentra en Monterrey donde se quedó a vivir. Nació en Aguascalientes, recientemente acaba de cumplir otro año. Se entiende porque siempre tuvo el recuerdo de aquellos años cuando fue parte del equipo que ganó el campeonato mundial de Ligas Pequeñas en Williamsport. Siendo él la gran figura con su juego perfecto.
Ese es el gran misterio, todos pensamos que al crecer y hacerse pelotero profesional, sería como lanzador. Pero nada de eso, seguramente ya sabe usted que cada equipo tiene derecho de hacer notar en su roster que un par de jugadores regulares pueden aparecer como pitchers suplentes. Pues ni así. Recuerdo que una vez en el parque del Seguro Social, platicando con él de varios temas, surgió la pregunta ¿Por qué no lanzaba?
Respondió que le gustaba jugar diario y ya sonriendo dijo que prefería dar palos que recibirlos. “No sé realmente, posiblemente en el fondo sentí que no tenía las facultades para ser pitcher en el beisbol profesional”.
Pasó mucho tiempo en el beisbol profesional, jugó primeramente para los Broncos de Reynosa y luego surgió el cambió para jugar con los Sultanes de Monterrey. Fueron 11 años de carrera en la LMB. También jugó en la LMP. Se le recuerda con los Tomateros de Culiacán y luego con los Naranjeros de Hermosillo. Fue de los pioneros pues acudió con Hermosillo a la primera Serie del Caribe de un equipo mexicano. La cita aquella de 1971 en San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Lamentamos que un elemento como Macías, gente de beisbol en toda su trayectoria, buena persona, ahora sufra este mal que lo aqueja. Deseamos que pueda recuperarse y a sus 76 años disfrute un poco más de la vida al lado de mucha gente que lo admira y lo aprecia.
Antes de finalizar esta columna debo dedicarle unas líneas a un gran pitcher que fue majestuoso en su labor, me refiero a Tom Seaver que a sus 75 años acaba de fallecer. Me toco estar cerca de él en 1969 que ayudó a los Mets de Nueva York para ganar la Serie Mundial ante los Orioles de Baltimore. Un pitcher todo fortaleza, realmente una figura que deberá recordarse como un lanzador fuera de serie en toda la historia de Ligas Mayores, entre los lanzadores que fueron enormes haciendo su trabajo. Su ingreso al Salón de la Fama fue lo que se esperaba. Se juzga como uno de los lanzadores grandes en la época moderna. Agregaría, de todos los tiempos.
Ganador de tres Cy Young y figura consistente. Por eso lo llamaron “Tom Terrific”. Vaya que ahora se siente la presencia de una figura como fue él, con su familia y víctima de algo que los americanos llaman de Demencia y Covid. Descanse en paz.
