LANSING, Mich. – Will Simpson delivered an RBI single in the first inning, but that was the Lansing Lugnuts’ (2-3) only base hit in a 4-1 10-inning loss to the Great Lakes Loons (3-2) on Wednesday evening at Jackson® Field™.

Great Lakes outhit Lansing 9-1, but squandered prime scoring opportunities in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings against relievers Jake Garland and Dylan Hall. In the sixth, Garland stranded a one-out Jordan Thompson double. In the seventh, the Loons loaded the bases with none out, but Garland escaped with a 5-2-3 double play and a strikeout. And in the eighth, the Loons put runners at second and third with none out and loaded the bases with two outs, but Hall avoided any damage.

In the tenth, however, leadoff hitter Luis Rodriguez greeted Garrett Irvin with a tie-breaking RBI single. After a Thompson walk, Noah Miller singled home pinch-runner Nick Biddison. Three batters later, Chris Newell finished off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

On the other side, the Lugnuts’ offense was silenced by a four-pitcher effort, featuring three innings from Jacob Meador, three perfect innings from Jerming Rosario, two perfect innings from Kelvin Ramirez, and two hitless innings from Lucas Wepf. Lansing’s only base runners: a walk to Brayan Buelvas in the first inning, a single by Simpson two batters later, a walk to Colby Halter in the third inning, and a walk to Simpson in the tenth.
