GREENVILLE- Juan Pablo Lopez and Spencer Arrighetti combined to pitch nine innings of shutout baseball against the Greenville Drive on Wednesday night. It was the first time the Asheville Tourists have shutout an opponent in a nine-inning game this season. Asheville plated a pair of runs late in the contest to win by a final score of 2-0.
Lopez, who made his first start since mid-April, pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Lopez scattered three hits and did not walk a batter. The left-hander worked around a one-out triple in the bottom of the fourth to keep the game scoreless.
Arrighetti came into the game in the fifth and proceeded to pitch five shutout innings of his own. Spencer scattered three hits, struck out eight Drive hitters, and did not walk a batter either. The right-hander earned his fourth win of the season.
Offensively, Asheville finished the contest with ten hits but only managed to score two runs. Luis Santana finished the game 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk, and two runs scored. Santana reached base to lead off four separate innings.
The first time Santana crossed the plate was after he tripled to lead off the seventh inning. Quincy Hamilton hit a fly ball to centerfield that served as a Sacrifice Fly. In the ninth, Santana singled to lead off the inning, went to second on a groundout, and scored on a Michael Sandle single back up the middle. Sandle and JC Correa finished the game with two hits apiece.
