Louisville Bats Notes: July 31

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Louisville Bats dropped the opening game of their three-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens by a 6-4 score, despite a two-home run from Gabriel Guerrero. The Bats have still won 11 of their last 14 games, which includes a season-long 9-game winning streak. Tonight, right-hander José López looks to get the Bats back on track at Fifth Third Field.

AGAINST TOLEDO: The Bats and Mud Hens meet for their fourth and final series at Fifth Third Field this season. In their last meeting, Toledo took 2 of 3 against Louisville at Louisville Slugger Field heading into the All-Star break. In this series, Louisville faces off against a divisional opponent for the first time since July 15 vs. Columbus, playing their previous 14 games against teams based in the Empire State.
TRANSACTIONS: Left-hander Kyle Crockett was outrighted to Louisville following being designated for assignment by the Cincinnati Reds. Crockett has made 23 appearances out of the Louisville bullpen this season, going 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA (12er/27.0ip), walking 5 and striking out 23. The southpaw has made 15 apps for the Reds in 2018, going 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA (6er/9.1ip), with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts.
-RHP Rafael De Paula was transferred to Class AA Pensacola. The reliever went 1.2 innings yesterday, giving up 2 solo home runs, walking one and striking out 3.
WHAT A GAME: Center fielder Gabriel Guerrero went 3-for-5 with 2 solo home runs in the Bats' 6-4 loss, his second multi-homer game this season. It was the sixth two-homer performance by a Bats player this season. Oddly enough, Louisville is just 2-3 when it has a player hit multiple home runs in the game. On June 27, both Dilson Herrera and Phillip Ervin hit 2 home runs in an 11-10 win at Columbus, the first time since 2004 that multiple Bats players hit 2+ homers in the same contest.
DOUBLE DOUBLE: With Guerrero hitting 2 home runs in Monday's game, he reached double digits on the season. He joins D.J. Peterson as Louisville hitters this season with 10+ home runs on the season. It's the first time since the 2014 season multiple Bats players have 10+ home runs Ruben Gotay hit 17 homers and Felix Perez hit 12.
900 HITS: In the eighth inning of last night's game, Taylor Sparks ' RBI single that scored D.J. Peterson was the 900th hit for Louisville as a club this season. The Bats have the third-most hits in the league with 901, trailing only Indianapolis (957) and Durham (940).
RED-HOT SUMMER: The Bats finished June with a winning record (14-13), and have clinched a winning record for the month of July. It's the first time the Bats have put together back-to-back months of winning baseball since April and May 2016, going 12-9 and 16-14, respectively.
SCHEBLER ON REHAB: In 5 games during his current rehab stint, Scott Schebler is batting .176 (3-for-17) with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts at the plate. The Major League rehabber has appeared at designated hitter in each of his 5 starts, appearing out of the leadoff spot in last night's 6-4 loss.
