Low Scoring Contest Favors the Grasshoppers

ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists were held to a season-low two hits on Wednesday night and were shutout for the third time this season. The visiting Greensboro Grasshoppers used a two-run Home Run in the top of the first inning and not much else to defeat Asheville by a final score of 3-0.

Greensboro used four pitchers to combine for the shutout performance. Asheville’s two hits were both singles; one in the third inning by JC Correa and one in the ninth by Michael Sandle. Entering the game, the Tourists had recorded at least one extra-base hit in 35 consecutive contests.

Asheville’s pitching trio of Ernesto Jaquez, Jacob Coats, and Palmer Wenzel did a nice job holding Greensboro’s offense at bay. Jaquez matched a season-high with 5.2 innings pitched and the only damage he allowed was the two-run Home Run in the first.

Coats spun 2.1 innings and struck out four with only one hit surrendered. Wenzel pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to give the Tourists offense one last chance.

Asheville has now dropped four straight after a stretch that saw the team win 10 of 12. The Tourists will attempt snap their skid on Thursday night with Game Three of the homestand slated for 6:35pm ET.
