LOWELL, MA - What looked like an early blowout quickly turned against the Spinners (9-14) as Hudson Valley (15-8) took the second game of the series.
The Spinners came out of the gate hot with Jarren Duran leading off the first with a single, his first of four hits on the evening. With two outs in the inning, Devlin Granberg managed to bring him home with an RBI double to put Lowell on top 1-0.
The lead continued to grow in the bottom of the third inning when three-time All-Star Brandon Phillips, playing in his second game since signing as a member of the Red Sox organization, launched a three-run 430-foot home run over the left field wall to put Lowell on top 4-0.
Brian Brown pitched his best game of the season with five hitless innings while striking out three and walking a pair.
The bullpen struggled to hold the lead however as the Renegades would go on to score 10 unanswered runs, including eight in the top of the seventh. Taylor Ahearn surrendered seven runs (five earned) and Tanner Raiburn gave up three as well.
Lowell did not go down quietly though as Jonathan Ortega put another run on the board for the Spinners when he doubled home Grant Williams to make it a 10-5 game but it would be too little too late.
The Spinners wrap up their home-stand tomorrow with fifth-round draft pick Thaddeus Ward making his LeLacheur Park debut. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
