Turning Point
Rodriguez connected for the first of his two homers on the night in the fourth inning, when he blasted a two-run shot to center field off Richmond starter Jordan Johnson (4-5) to give Akron a 4-0 lead. It came with two outs in the inning and followed a double by Eric Haase.
Winging It
Akron left-hander Matt Whitehouse (3-3) worked a season-high, seven innings to earn the win. He scattered six hits and allowed two runs. Whitehouse did not issue a walk, although he hit a batter during Richmond's two-run sixth inning rally. He struck out three, and lowered his ERA to 3.28. Robbie Aviles tossed a scoreless inning in the eighth, before Mitch Brown and Neil Holland closed out the game in the ninth. The Flying Squirrels (30-42) scored four off Brown, including a three-run homer by Jeff Arnold.
Duck Tales
Rodriguez homered again in the eighth inning with a solo shot off Yordy Cabrera. He now has eight homers on the season, three of which have come in the last two games. Rodriguez completed a 3-5 night when he doubled in the top of the ninth. After the Flying Squirrels pulled to within 4-2, Akron rallied for three in the seventh to push the lead back to 7-2. The RubberDucks (35-33) used Rodriguez's homer and a RBI fielder's choice by Haase to build a 9-2 lead going to the final inning. Bobby Bradley collected three hits on the night, including a pair of doubles. Connor Marabell was 3-4, with three singles. Dorssys Paulino clubbed a two-run double in the second inning to get Akron on the board.
