M-Braves four game win streak ends with 6-3 loss in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS -- The Biloxi Shuckers (20-19) defeated the Mississippi Braves (21-18) 6-3 Tuesday morning in game four of a five game series at MGM Park, snapping the Braves four-game winning streak. The Shuckers jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally by the M-Braves to prevent Mississippi from a possible sweep scenario in game five.
The M-Braves were held hitless by Biloxi starter Luis Ortiz, who worked five innings of no-hit ball with three walks and six strikeouts but did not record the win. The Braves finally got in the hits column in the sixth when Nick Ramirez (2-0) entered the game in relief. Keith Curcio notched his team-leading third triple of the season to lead off the sixth and scored one batter later on an RBI-single from Luis Valenzuela. Ramirez got out of the inning with no more damage and picked up the victory when the Shuckers took the lead again in the home half of the inning.
Mississippi did not threaten again until the ninth when Carlos Franco ripped a line-drive homer beyond the right field wall to start a last-inning rally. Joey Meneses followed with a walk and Kade Scivicque singled to put runners at the corners with no outs. A sacrifice fly from Dylan Moore cut the lead to three, but Matt Ramsey struck out the last two batters to end the threat.

On the mound, the M-Braves got five innings from starter Matt Withrow (1-2) who picked up his second loss of the season despite only giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits. Withrow walked three and a hit batter in his 5.1 innings of work. In relief, Danny Reynolds gave up three runs on two hits and two walks. Jesse Biddle finished the eighth inning but gave up a solo home run to Javier Betancourt.
