Machin's homer not enough in 4-3 loss

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 14, 2017) - Vimael Machin's home run was not enough Friday as the Winston-Salem Dash rallied to defeat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 4-3 from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. 
With the score tied at three in the seventh, Winston-Salem (35-57, 11-11) pushed across a run off Myrtle Beach (51-40, 8-13) reliever Tommy Thorpe (3-3). Luis Basabe walked to lead off the frame for the Dash. With one out in the inning, Danny Mendick recorded an infield single before advancing to second base on a throwing error that also allowed Basabe to advance to third. Eloy Jiménez was intentionally walked with two outs in the frame to load the bases. Jameson Fisher was hit by the very next pitch to bring home Basabe and give the Dash the 4-3 advantage. 

Dane Dunning was the starter for Winston-Salem, and the right-hander tossed five innings and allowed just two earned runs on eight hits. Zach Thompson (2-7) collected the win in the Dash's victory as he pitched two scoreless innings and allowed only one hit. Kyle Kubat and Jack Charleston both worked a scoreless frame following Thompson. Charleston picked up his eighth save of the season after a spotless ninth to finish off Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach started the scoring in the first inning, as Zack Short led off the bottom of the frame with a base hit. With one out in the inning, Trent Giambrone singled to put two Pelicans on the bases. Later in the inning with two outs, Tyler Alamo laced an opposite field single to right field, scoring Short to give the Birds the 1-0 lead. 
In his first at-bat as a Pelican, Machin blasted a home run to left field to lead off the second inning. The shot gave the Birds a 2-0 advantage.
With one out in the top of the third, Luis Basabe doubled to left field before stealing third base. Former Pelican Bryant Flete drove in Basabe on an RBI groundout to make the score 2-1. 
The Winston-Salem offense would continue to roll in the fourth as they took their first lead of the game. With one out in the inning, Jimenez and Fisher drew back-to-back walk to put two on base. Matt Rose delivered for the Dash with a double to left field that scored Jimenez and Fisher to give Winston-Sale their first lead of the contest at 3-2.
Machin and Robert Garcia led off the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back hits. Both Machin and Garcia advanced 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt from Roberto Caro before Short reached on an error to load the bases. With two outs in the frame, Giambrone was hit by a pitch, allowing Machin to score as the Birds tied the Dash at three. 
Since joining the Dash, former Pelicans Jimenez, Flete and Rose have accounted for six of Winston-Salem last 15 hits, as well as five RBIs.
Myrtle Beach will play the finale of their four-game set with the Dash on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Kyle Miller  (2-2, 4.42 ERA) will throw for Myrtle Beach against RHP Bernardo Flores (0-2, 6.60 ERA). The first 1,000 fans in attendance to Saturday's game will receive a Jason Heyward 'King of Rain Delays' bobblehead. The night will also finish with a Postgame Fireworks Extravaganza presented by East Coast Pyrotechnics Fireworks.
