Hartford, CT- Yard Goats catcher Willie MacIver blasted a franchise record three home runs, leading Hartford to a 7-5 victory over the Altoona Curve in the first game of a doubleheader. Playing in just his third game since getting promoted to the Yard Goats, MacIver hit a three-run homer, two-run homer and solo shot. In game two, Matt Dennis worked five impressive innings, catcher Max George homered, and infielder Taylor Snyder hit the go-ahead single as the Yard Goats defeated Altoona 2-1, completing a doubleheader sweep.

In game one, the Yard Goats scored four runs in the second inning off Altoona starter Osvaldo Bido, highlighted by a pair of home runs. Elehuris Montero singled and Willie Abreu walked before Willie MacIver cranked a three-run homer into the left field seats, giving Hartford a 3-0 lead. Manny Melendez followed with a solo shot to right field as the Yard Goats hit back-to-back homers.

MacIver struck again in the fourth inning with a two run homer and finished his record breaking night with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Mason Martin hit two homers for the Curve.

In game two, Yard Goats starter Matt Dennis retired the first 12 Curve players, including five strikeouts. Max George gave Hartford a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the third inning. Mason Martin led off the fifth inning with a solo homer and tied the game at 1-1. It was the first hit and baserunner for the Curve.

The Yard Goats took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Sean Bouchard cracked a double and Taylor Snyder drove him in with a single to center field, giving the Yard Goats a one-run lead. Hartford reliever Nick Kennedy registered five strikeouts in 1.2 innings and Julian Fernandez retired the only batter faced for the save.

The Yard Goats conclude the homestand at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Sunday night (7:05 PM) against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates). A post game fireworks show will follow the game.
