Macko Mystifies, C's Capitalize To End Losing Skid

PASCO, WA – Adam Macko (W, 5-5) twirled five scoreless and hitless frames while the offense took advantage of extra chances in a big seventh inning as the Canadians took down the Tri-City Dust Devils [Angels] 7-3 in the lid lifter of the final regular season series Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium. The win ended a five-game losing streak that was tied for the longest of the year for Vancouver.

The southpaw was dominant from the opening bell. He worked around a one-out walk in the first to K two in that inning, punched out another pair in a 1-2-3 second then struck out the side around a free pass in the fourth before setting down the Dust Devils in order to wrap up his night in the fifth. His final line: 5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K.

Vancouver took the lead for good in the top of the third. Jommer Hernandez worked a lead-off walk, stole second then scored on an RBI double from Josh Kasevich to make it 1-0.

That would be the score until the seventh when the C’s sent nine men to the dish and scored five runs. Hernandez got it started with a double then Kasevich worked a one-out walk. A Peyton Williams single that featured an error in right field scored Hernandez and Gabby Martinez followed with a two-RBI base hit. After a walk, an error at second base and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Ryan McCarty added two more runs, Vancouver was ahead 6-0.

The Canadians scored two more in the eighth with two singles, a wild pitch and a ground out then reliever Leam Mendez carried the no-hitter into the bottom of the inning after retiring the first seven batters of his night. Mendez handed out a one-out free pass then gave up a run-scoring double for Tri-City’s first hit and run of the ballgame.

Naswell Paulino got the final two outs of the eighth then limited the damage in the ninth to two runs on two hits to secure a 7-3 C’s win.
