West Sacramento, Calif. — The Sacramento River Cats (4-2) could not overcome a four-run sixth inning, falling 8-1 to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (2-4) in the Sunday series finale.

Sugar Land’s corner infielders, first baseman J.J. Matijevic and third baseman David Hensley, fueled the Space Cowboys’ offense.

Matijevic started the scoring in the second with a home run to highlight his 3-for-5 day while Hensley put the game out of reach in the sixth with a three-run shot that capped off his 3-for-4 day.

Shortstop Arquímedes Gamboa plated the River Cats’ lone run when he blooped a single to right field to score right fielder Austin Dean in the fifth inning.

Sacramento right-hander Yunior Marte was a bright spot on the mound, striking out three of six batters in 2.0 perfect innings.

Left-hander Michael Plassmeyer (0-0, 1.80) will take the ball looking to get the River Cats back in the win column. He’ll be opposed by Aces lefty Tyler Gilbert (0-0, 9.00) on Tuesday in Reno at 1:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
