Sugar Land’s corner infielders, first baseman J.J. Matijevic and third baseman David Hensley, fueled the Space Cowboys’ offense.
Matijevic started the scoring in the second with a home run to highlight his 3-for-5 day while Hensley put the game out of reach in the sixth with a three-run shot that capped off his 3-for-4 day.
Shortstop Arquímedes Gamboa plated the River Cats’ lone run when he blooped a single to right field to score right fielder Austin Dean in the fifth inning.
Sacramento right-hander Yunior Marte was a bright spot on the mound, striking out three of six batters in 2.0 perfect innings.
Left-hander Michael Plassmeyer (0-0, 1.80) will take the ball looking to get the River Cats back in the win column. Sacramento right-hander Jakob Junis (0-1) struck out four while allowing two runs in 4.0 innings. Righty Taylor Williams struggled in his 1.2 innings of work, allowing five runs on five hits.
Designated hitter Luis González saw a lot of pitches out of the leadoff spot, working three walks on 19 pitches in his first three plate appearances.
