KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 21, 2017) - With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Grant Massey brought home two runs on a single to centerfield and the Intimidators edged the Hickory Crawdads 9-8 on Sunday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Massey finished 2-for-3 with five RBI, a new career high, as Kannapolis (22-19) evened the season series with Hickory 6-6.
Reliever Danny Dopico (1-2) earned the win, tossing 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings with one hit, four walks, and two strikeouts. Ben Wright picked up his first save of the season spinning a 1-2-3 final frame while striking out one. Hickory's Kaleb Fontenot (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six in four innings of work out of the pen.
Kannapolis trailed 4-1 in the middle of the second inning before exploding for three runs in each of the next two frames. The Intimidators tied the score 4-4 in the bottom of the second when Massey picked up his first RBI, walking with the bases loaded, followed by a Tyler Sullivan RBI single and a Jameson Fisher sacrifice fly to right field.
In the third Kannapolis grabbed a 7-4 lead as Seby Zavala singled in a run before a two-run triple from Massey.
The I's surrendered four runs in the fifth inning and fell behind 8-7, before recovering to win.
