RHP Adonis Rosa (W, 2-1) pitched the final 5.1 innings for Trenton to earn the win. Rosa yielded three hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Trenton took a 1-0 against losing pitcher Dedgar Jimenez (1-3) in the third inning. Zach Zehner delivered an RBI single with two outs. Portland would come right back in the fourth, and tie the game on Matheny's single.
The Thunder took the lead for good in the fifth inning on Rashad Crawford's run-scoring triple. Jimenez worked five innings on two runs, four hits, four walks, and two strikeouts.
Matthew Gorst pitched the final three innings, yielding a run in the eighth inning. In the ninth, Matheny's RBI hit closed the gap to one, but Luke Tendler flew to CF to end the game.
The Sea Dogs and Thunder conclude a five-game series on Thursday morning with a 10:30 pitch at Arm & Hammer Park.
