MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game road trip with a 6-2 defeat loss to the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A, Chicago Cubs) on Friday night at Principal Park.

Starting pitcher Quinn Mathews (0-1) made his Triple-A debut on Friday night at Iowa. The left-handed pitcher allowed three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out seven in 4.0 innings. Mathews pushed his MiLB-best strikeout total to 187 on the season.

Four Memphis batters had two hits in the loss. Shortstop Thomas Saggese slapped two singles, second baseman Cesar Prieto popped a pair of doubles, third baseman Nick Dunn went 2-for-3 with a walk and first baseman Chandler Redmond went 2-for-4 with a two-bagger.

Catcher Wade Stauss brought home his first career Triple-A RBIs with a two-out double in the ninth inning. The Redbirds outhit the Cubs but went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park to start a six-game homestand against the Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A, Kansas City Royals) on Tuesday, September 3 with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
