(Las Vegas, NV) – June 6, 2022 – The Las Vegas Aviators® professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, today announced that infielder Matt Davidson was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week (May 30 – June 5).
Davidson marks the first time that a Las Vegas player has been named PCL Player of the Week in 2022!
Davidson appeared in six games and batted .429 (9-for-21) with five home runs and 11 RBI against the Sacramento River Cats at Las Vegas Ballpark. Las Vegas swept the six-game series against Sacramento.
He recorded back-to-back, two home run games on June 2 and 3. On Friday, June 2, he was 2-for-5 (2 HR, 4 RBI) and on Saturday, June 3 (2-for-3, walk, SF, 2 HR, season-high 6 RBI). He hit a two-run, home run in the eighth inning to tie the game at 10-10 (Aviators won 11-10). He was 3-for-5, walk, double in the series opener on Tuesday, May 31.
On the season, he has appeared in 21 games for the Aviators and is batting .260 (20-for-77) with three doubles, seven home runs and 17 RBI. Overall, in Triple-A, he has appeared in 32 games (11 with Reno to begin the season) and is batting .306 (37-for-121) with four doubles, 15 home runs (2nd in PCL) and 29 RBI.
Davidson has played professionally for 14 seasons in the Arizona, Chicago White Sox, Texas, Cincinnati, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland organizations. He played in parts of six Major League seasons with Arizona (2013, 2022), White Sox (2016-18) and Cincinnati (2020). He was originally selected by Arizona in the first round (35th overall) in June 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in 303 career Major League games and recorded 46 doubles, 53 home runs and 155 RBI and hit a career-high 26 home runs and 68 RBI for the White Sox in 2017.
The Aviators have won a season-high 10 straight games and have the best record in the PCL at 32-21 (.604/1st place in West Division). Las Vegas will conclude the nine-game homestand with a three-game series against the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, from Tuesday-Thursday, June 7-9 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
