Matt Szczur Wins PCL Player of the Week Award

Reno, Nev. - Reno Aces outfielder Matt Szczur has been named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Week for the period of May 27 - June 2, the League Office announced today. Szczur, 29, went 12-for-22 (.545) last week with eight runs scored, 11 RBI and three home runs.

Reno, Nev. - Reno Aces outfielder Matt Szczur has been named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Week for the period of May 27 - June 2, the League Office announced today.
Szczur, 29, went 12-for-22 (.545) last week with eight runs scored, 11 RBI and three home runs. He led the Pacific Coast league in Average (.545), Slugging percentage (1.000), On-base plus slugging (1.538) and was second in RBI. Szczur is the third Aces player to win the award this season, joining teammates Yasmany Tomás (May 20-26) and Kevin Cron (May 13-19). Reno has never had three consecutive Player of the Week winners until now.

Szczur recorded four multi-hit performances this week, three of which were three-hit performances. Last night against Albuquerque, Szczur went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The Cape May, NJ native was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as a Minor League free agent on December 14, 2018 following a year and a half stint with the San Diego Padres. He has appeared in 363 career Major League games and 17 for the Reno Aces.
In addition to his professional baseball career, Szczur led the Villanova Wildcats to the 2009 Division I Football Championship Series National Title in 2009 and was named MVP of the Championship game with 270 all-purpose yards and a career-high 159 rushing yards.
