(Burlington-IA) - The Burlington Bees (23-34) scored three unanswered runs, beating the Beloit Snappers (30-29), 3-2, on Thursday night at Community Field.
With one out in the first inning, Luke Persico drew a walk and then came home to score when Edwin Diaz lined a triple to right, giving Beloit a 1-0 lead. The Snappers weren't done as Miguel Mercedes grounded out, scoring Diaz, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Bees got on the board in the first inning as well. With one out, Keith Grieshaber walked. Jordan Zimmerman then drove in Grieshaber with a double, cutting the deficit to 2-1. It was Zimmerman and Grieshaber teaming up again, this time in the fifth inning. Grieshaber smacked a two-out double to left and then came home to score on a Zimmerman single, tying the game at two.
Sam McDonnell gave the Bees the lead in the sixth inning, hitting a solo home run to right, putting the Bees on top, 3-2. Mike Kaelin (3-1) earned the win in relief for the Bees while Nick Highberger (1-1) was charged with the loss for Beloit. Sean Isaac (1) worked two innings to earn the save.
The Bees hit the road to beginning a four-game road trip in Cedar Rapids against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. The Bees will have right-hander Andrew Vinson making the start against Clark Beeker for Cedar Rapids.
NOTES: Keith Grieshaber extended his hitting streak to seven games. The Bees finish the six game home stand 3-3. Nate Bertness allowed two runs in the first inning and then threw four straight scoreless innings in a no-decision.
