Akron RubberDucks catcher Francisco Mejía has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 5th-June 11th. The 21-year old batted .609 (14-for-23) with three doubles, five home runs, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, one stolen base, two walks, and a 1.391 slugging percentage in five games last week. Mejia, who is a native of Bani, Dominican Republic, had multiple hits in all five games he played in last week and collected four hits in two games, including going 4-for-5 with a pair of homers and six RBIs in a 21-4 win at Portland on Wednesday. He followed that up with two more home runs in a 14-8 loss at Portland on Thursday. The 5'10", 180 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.609), hits (14), extra-base hits (8), total bases (32), home runs (5), on-base percentage (.640), slugging percentage (1.391), and OPS (2.031) last week and tied for the lead in runs scored (7) and RBIs (10). He also ranked among the weekly league leaders in stolen bases (1-tied 6th) and doubles (3-tied 8th). In 38 games for the RubberDucks this season Mejia has a league-best .369 batting average. Francisco, who is rated by MLB.com as the second best prospect in the Cleveland organization, was signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2012.

Ronald Herrera, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 5th-June 11th. The 5'11", 185 lb. hurler started one game for the Thunder last week and had a record of 1-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Herrera, who is a native of Maracay, Venezuela, made his lone start of the week on Thursday night against the visiting Hartford Yard Goats and pitched 6.2 shutout innings in Trenton's 9-0 victory. He gave up just two hits and struck out a season-high nine batters without allowing a walk to earn the win for the Thunder. With his performance Ronald improved his record to 7-0 and lowered his league-best ERA to 1.07 in eight starts for the Thunder this season. The 22-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.30) last week and also ranked among the weekly league leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), batting average against (.091-3rd), strikeouts (9-3rd), and wins (1-tied 3rd). Ronald was acquired by the New York Yankees in a trade from the San Diego Padres on November 11, 2015. He started his professional career when he was signed by the Oakland Athletics as a non-drafted free agent on December 11, 2011. He was traded from Oakland to San Diego on May 15, 2014.
