Smith started the season with a flourish in El Paso, going 7-for-19 (.368) in a five-game series against the Chihuahuas. Welcoming the Grizzlies to the offensively friendly confines of Cashman Field, he quickly introduced himself to Las Vegas fans.

Hitless in his first two at-bats, MLB.com's No. 60 overall prospect stroked an RBI single to center field in the fifth inning and scored two batters later on Kevin Plawecki's single to right. That hit helped engineer a six-run inning, and Smith again did his part in the sixth. The first baseman followed top Mets prospect Amed Rosario's leadoff single to center with one of his own to open a four-run frame.
The 51s led, 15-2, after six innings, and the Grizzlies turned to deep reserves to endure the onslaught. Outfielder Andrew Aplin took the mound in the seventh and served up Smith's first Pacific Coast League homer, a solo shot to left-center with one out. In his final trip to the plate in the eighth, Smith drove an RBI double to center to score Rosario. Plawecki plated Smith with the 51s' final run with a single to right.
It was the seventh four-hit game of Smith's career and fourth multi-hit effort through six games at the Minors' highest level. The 21-year-old has registered knocks in five of his six games, and Tuesday night lifted his slash line to .440/.462/.680. He boasts three doubles to go with Tuesday's homer among his 11 total hits.

Las Vegas totaled 19 hits, with Rosario going 3-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored a spot ahead of Smith in the lineup. The 51s batted 20 times with runners in scoring position and notched nine hits.
Grizzlies starter David Martinez (0-1) surrendered seven runs -- six earned -- over 4 1/3 innings and Jared Mortensen gave up eight -- five earned -- while recording five outs. Three Fresno position players -- Aplin and infielders Tyler White and Reid Brignac -- combined to allow six runs in two innings.
