LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Today, Minor League Baseball named Gwinnett Stripers right-hander Michael Soroka the International League Pitcher of the Month for August. It is Soroka’s first monthly award at any level.
The 26-year-old Soroka led league qualifiers in lowest BAA (.165) and WHIP (0.88) and ranked third in strikeouts (34) during the month, going 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA (8 ER in 26.0 IP) in five starts. One of those starts was a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout on August 12 in Charlotte, making him one of just five IL pitchers to accomplish the feat this season. He is the first Gwinnett player to claim an IL Pitcher of the Month award since left-hander Kyle Muller won for June 2022.
In 17 starts overall with the Stripers this season, Soroka is 4-4 with a 3.41 ER (33 ER in 87.0 IP), 1.07 WHIP, .205 BAA, and six quality starts. He was recalled by Atlanta today and is set to start for the Braves tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Stripers play game one of a six-game series vs. the Worcester Red Sox at Coolray Field, first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Listen to the game online at MyCountry993.com or watch on the Bally Live app.
