Michael Stefanic delivered a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Salt Lake Bees (20-25) a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Las Vegas Aviators (21-24) on Sunday afternoon.
Las Vegas was able to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth inning with a run against Gerardo Reyes. With one out in the bottom half, Preston Palmeiro walked, David Fletcher singled and Jo Adell drew a walk to load the bases for Stefanic. The Bees second baseman promptly punched the 0-1 pitch into right field to score the tying and winning runs. In the process, Stefanic extended his franchise record by reaching base safely in his 48th consecutive game.
Stefanic delivered the knockout blow, but Adell did the damage for the Bees early, hitting a pair of home runs to regain a tie for the lead in all professional baseball with 18 on the season. Jared Oliva made a pair of spectacular plays in the field, robbing Las Vegas of runs with a diving catch in seventh and crashing into the wall at full speed on a flyout with the bases loaded to end the top of the ninth.
The victory gave the Bees a 4-2 series win in the six-game set with Las Vegas. Salt Lake takes Monday off before traveling to Texas to begin a six-game series with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Tuesday night.
