DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In his Florida State League debut, RHP Jared Solomon set season-highs with seven strikeouts over six innings. Yet, the Fort Myers Miracle spoiled his evening, as the Daytona Tortugas fell, 2-0, in front of 2,377 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Saturday night.

Both teams failed to make a dent in the scoreboard until Fort Myers (28-20) finally broke the drought in the fifth. CF Aaron Whitefield (2-3, R, BB, SO) began the frame with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. With two down in the frame, SS Royce Lewis (0-4, SO) hit a slow tapper up the third-base line. The throw to first was wild, which allowed Whitefield to score to put the Miracle up 1-0.
The contest remained a one-run affair until Fort Myers added to their advantage in the eighth. On a 2-2 offering, 1B Lewin Díaz (2-4, R, HR, RBI) launched a high-arcing drive down the right-field line. The blast hooked around the foul pole for a solo home run. The 22-year-old's ninth dinger of the year put the Miracle in front, 2-0.
Solomon (6.0 IP, 3 H, R, 2 BB, 7 SO) was phenomenal in his Daytona (26-22) debut. The 21-year-old surrendered one unearned run over three hits in six innings, striking out seven. However, Solomon suffered his first FSL loss.
RHP Jordan Balazovic (7.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 SO) was stellar, as well. Minnesota's No. 20 prospect tossed seven shutout innings to garner his third win in a Miracle uniform. RHP Anthony Vizcaya (2.0 IP, 2 SO) sat down all six batters he faced to collect his league-high-tying seventh save.
The Tortugas will search for a series split on Sunday evening, as RHP Austin Orewiler (1-5, 3.89 ERA) is expected to toe the slab in the finale. Fort Myers is scheduled to counter with the Twins' No. 7 prospect per Baseball America, RHP Jhoan Durán (0-4, 4.60 ERA).
