Misch beans four in frame to set PCL mark

Pat Misch has got himself a Pacific Coast League record. It just happens to be a dubious one.

The Triple-A New Orleans left-hander set the mark for most hit batsmen in an inning on the 112-year-old circuit Monday night when he hit four consecutive Oklahoma City batters to open the game. The Dodgers went on to a 5-2 win over the Zephyrs.

Oklahoma City's Darnell Sweeney worked his leadoff at-bat to a full count before being plunked. Behind him, Austin Barnes was hit in the foot on a 2-2 pitch. In the initial lefty-lefty matchup of Misch's game, he hit Oklahoma City third baseman Buck Britton with his first pitch. Finally, the 33-year-old drilled Chris Heisey with another first-pitch offering to force home the game's first run.

In all, it took 13 pitches to set the dubious PCL mark.

"I've never seen that before," Oklahoma City manager Damon Berryhill told NewsOK.com. "Fortunately for us, nobody really got squared up for us. Everybody got grazed. It led to a big inning for us."

With the bases loaded and a 1-0 lead, top Dodgers prospect Corey Seager singled home two runs with his first of two hits on the day. O'Koyea Dickson followed with a run-scoring double play that plated Heisey.

That wasn't the end of the wayward pitches for Misch, who also beaned Oklahoma City left fielder Kyle Jensen in the fourth. The five HBPs matched Misch's season total for all of his last Minor League season, 2013 with Triple-A Toledo. Misch missed all of last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

In all, the veteran of 78 Major League games over six seasons from 2006-11 was charged with five runs on five hits over six innings. Misch (1-2) added three walks and a strikeout.
