Miscues haunt Jacksonville in 10-5 loss

NORFOLK, Va. – Cam Cannarella reached base four times on Friday, but the Norfolk Tides took advantage of six Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp errors in a 10-5 win at Harbor Park.
The Jumbo Shrimp (67-67, 25-35) led 5-4 when a Rece Hinds single coupled with a two-base error put a runner on third to start the seventh. Creed Willems’ sacrifice fly off Amos Willingham (1-4) tied the score. José Barrero walked and stole second before scoring on another error to give the Tides (52-81, 24-34) the lead at 6-5.
Norfolk blew it open in the eighth. Enrique Bradfield Jr. walked before Jeremiah Jackson was hit by a pitch. Hinds followed with an RBI single. A Willems RBI single coupled with another error scored two runs. After a Barrero walk, Eeles’ RBI base hit made it 10-5.
Jacksonville got the scoring started in the third. Cannarella singled with one out before Brandon Compton walked. Juan Matheus laced an RBI double for the game’s first run before Matthew Etzel’s sacrifice fly put things at 2-0.
Logan Driscoll led off the fourth with a home run. Johnny Olmstead singled. Following a fly out, Olmstead advanced to second on a ground out before scoring on a Cannarella base hit to widen the gap to 4-0.
Hinds led off the bottom of the fourth with a single before stealing second. Willems walked before a Barrero single loaded the bases. Hinds scored the Tides’ first run on a double play.
Brandon Butterworth started the Norfolk fifth with a walk before stealing second. After a line out, Bradfield Jr. walked. A fielder’s choice coupled with an error plated Butterworth to cut things to 4-2.
The Jumbo Shrimp got the run back, however, when Olmstead homered to lead off the sixth.
Eeles was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth. A Luis Vazquez single coupled with an error brought in Eeles. After another error, Silas Ardoin’s RBI double pulled Norfolk to within 5-4.
