Mitch Walding Named June Player of the Month

Walding batted .337 (31-for-92) with four doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 27 RBIs, 21 runs scored, a .398 on-base percentage, and a .848 slugging percentage in 25 games during the month. The 24-year old had at least one hit in 21 of the 25 games he played in during the month of June and kicked off the month with back-to-back two home run games on June 1st against Portland and on June 2nd at Akron. He added two more two homer performances during the month on June 11th against Hartford and on June 24th against Trenton.
The 6'3", 190 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (13), RBIs (27), runs scored (21), total bases (78), slugging percentage (.848), and OPS (1.246) during the month of June and tied for the league lead in extra-base hits (19). He also ranked among the monthly league leaders in doubles (2-tied 3rd), hits (31-tied 7th), and batting average (.337-tied 10th).
Walding is batting .244 (59-for-242) with 10 doubles, four triples, 20 home runs, 48 RBIs, and 42 runs scored, in 69 games for the Fightin Phils this season. His 20 home runs lead the league and he is also ranked among the league leaders in slugging percentage (.566-3rd), extra-base hits (34-6th), total bases (137-7th), OPS (.905-7th), and RBIs (48-tied 8th).
Mitch, who was a MiLB.com Organizational All-Star for the Phillies last season after combining to hit .269 with 13 homers and 62 RBIs in 123 games between Class-A Clearwater and Reading, was selected by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 2011 draft out of St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California.
