The Jackson Generals suffered a 12-5 basting from the Montgomery Biscuits on Wednesday, one that ended in a mercifully brisk two hours and forty-one minutes. The Biscuits (10-16) scored runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings, handing the Generals (17-8) their second loss in a row.
Sam Lewis (2-3, 6.00 ERA) got off to a rocky start and could not fully recover, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits without getting an out in the fifth inning. Yuhei Nakaushiro did not fare much better, ceding three runs on four hits in the fifth as Montgomery mounted a 10-0 advantage halfway through the contest. Justin Donatella showed well in relief, facing only 11 hitters in three innings of work that was marred by a two-run homer by Brett Sullivan. Michael Dimock pitched a scoreless ninth, but that was after Montgomery had gone 9-for-15 with runners in scoring position through the first eight frames. Montgomery's first four hitters -- Jake Cronenworth, Ryan Boldt, Nick Solak, and Brandon Lowe -- combined to go 8-for-18 with 8 runs scored and 6 RBI against the Generals' staff.
Montgomery ace Génesis Cabrera (3-2, 2.38 ERA) pitched up to his billing, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out five. The Generals offense got two-hit nights from Kevin Medrano and Jose Vinicio and went 5-for-13 with men in scoring position as a team, but most of the damage was done against the Biscuits' bullpen. The eight-run loss was the Generals' largest margin of defeat in 2018.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
TOP 5: With Sam Lewis laboring and giving up hits to the first two batters of the inning, the Generals turn to left-hander Yuhei Nakaushiro, who enters with men on the corners, none out, and three left-handed hitters set to hit. Nakaushiro-who has held left-handed hitters to a .154 batting average entering the night, gives up an RBI single to Brandon Lowe to allow Montgomery a 6-0 lead. Nakaushiro strikes out Dalton Kelly next for the inning's first out, but he then surrenders a double to Nathan Lukes that makes the lead 7-0 Montgomery. In a situation where a groundball double play is sorely needed, it doesn't happen; Nakaushiro goes on to permit three more runs to score in the fifth before the Montgomery fire burns out.
SCORE: MTG 10, JXN 0
BOTTOM 7: With two men on and one out, Alberto Rosario chops a tailor-made double-play grounder to Montgomery shortstop Jermaine Palacios, effectively ending a Generals effort to rally. Additionally, Rosario slows his strides short of first base with a hobbling gait, barely crossing the bag being unable to continue running. Rosario is removed from the game and replaced by Jose Queliz, robbing the Generals of their most experienced catcher and a bat currently hitting just under .300. If Rosario were to miss time, he would be the fourth General to hit the disabled list in the space of eight days.
SCORE: MTG 12, JXN 1
