MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, were pinned by a strong performance from Montgomery Biscuits pitcher Benton Moss on Monday, falling 5-1 at Riverwalk Stadium.

The complete game thrown by Moss (4-4, 3.82 ERA) helped Montgomery (58-50, 21-17 Second Half) stay ahead of Jackson (58-49, 19-19) in their season series, maintaining a 7-5 lead in head-to-head games won.
Moss, the 25-year-old right-hander, dealt nine innings with 106 pitches, allowing seven Jackson hits and one run without walking a batter. Moss struck out a half-dozen Jackson batters, permitting only two Generals on base after the third inning. Moss retired eleven men in a row between the third and seventh innings, holding the visitors to one extra-base hit (a Jamie Westbrook double) in the final two thirds of the game. Marty Herum drove in the only Jackson run with an RBI single in the top of the second that scored Josh Prince for an early 1-0 lead. Westbrook and Daniel Robertson each collected multiple hits.
Facing the Biscuits for the first time in 2018 as a starter, Joel Payamps (9-4, 2.90 ERA) could not complete the fifth inning. The right-hander got the hook with two outs in the fifth after giving up an RBI double to Nathaniel Lowe and an RBI single to Jake Cronenworth that gave Montgomery a 3-1 lead. Bud Jeter entered and finished the frame, but he allowed a run in the sixth and another in the eighth before giving way to Daniel Gibson for the final out. Two of the three wild pitches thrown by Jackson on Monday evening led to runs scored by Montgomery.
