MOBILE, Ala. (July 5, 2017) -Osmer Morales did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, and the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, provided six early runs of support in a 6-3 win over the Mississippi Braves Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Morales (4-3) finally surrendered a single to Dylan Moore. Morales tossed six innings in his second quality start of the season, allowing just one run on three hits.
Zach Houchins hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a two-run single in the third to give the BayBears (36-46 overall, 6-7 second half) a 4-0 lead. He became the second BayBears player to hit a home run in back-to-back games. The four early runs knocked Mississippi starter Mike Soroka (9-5) out of the game after just three innings, his shortest start since July 27, 2015.
Sherman Johnson went 3-for-4 and drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth to add to the lead. Tim Arakawa also scored on the play, courtesy of a fielding error.
Connor Lien and Jared James hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the eighth. It was the second time this season the Braves (37-46, 3-10) hit back-to-back home runs.
