BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Astros starter Brett Adcock struck out seven over five scoreless frames and reliever Kit Scheetz struck out eight over four innings as the Astros shut out the Mudcats 2-0 on Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium in Buies Creek.

The Carolina (15-17) offense was held to just two hits in the loss and combined to strikeout 15 times for the second straight game. They also managed to leave five total base runners on base, with all five coming between the second and fourth innings.
The Astros (19-13) were shutout the night prior in game one of the series, but they returned the favor in game two while scoring twice on five hits in the series tying victory.
Buies Creek took a 1-0 lead in the third after Carlos Canelon doubled to start the frame before later scoring on a wild pitch lost by starter Braden Webb. Abraham Toro then led off the fourth with a solo home run to give the Astros a 2-0 lead midway through the game.
Toro went 1-for-3 with a RBI and his sixth home run of the season. Canelon went 1-for-3 with a run and a double.
The 2-0 lead ended up being more than enough for Adcock (3-0, 0.99) and Scheetz (S, 2) who went on to hold Carolina to just two hits in the shut out effort. Adcock walked seven, scattered two hits and struck out seven over five innings pitched. Scheetz then went on to pitch through four perfect innings with eight strikeouts while working through the rest of the game. He faced 12 batters to close out the game and retired all of them in consecutive order.
Webb (1-3, 7.86) left after getting through the fifth for the second time this season and reliever Conor Harber later took over out of the Carolina pen. Harber went on hold the Astros to just one hit while also totaling three strikeouts against one walk. Webb gave up two runs on four hits and struck out four while also reaching 62 pitches (41 strikes) in the loss.
The Buies Creek victory evened the series at 1-1, with the finale scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Jim Perry Stadium in Buies Creek. The series finale will feature RHP Marcos Diplan (1-1, 5.06) starting for the Mudcats against RHP Jorge Alcala (1-3, 3.79) and the Astros.
