Mudcats shutout by Davis and Fiegl in game two

KINSTON, N.C. - Down East starter Tyler Davis and reliever Brady Fiegl teamed on a one-hit 4-0 shutout of the Mudcats in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Grainger Stadium. Max McDowell had the only hit for the Mudcats and was 1-for-2 in the loss.

KINSTON, N.C. - Down East starter Tyler Davis and reliever Brady Fiegl teamed on a one-hit 4-0 shutout of the Mudcats in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Grainger Stadium. Max McDowell had the only hit for the Mudcats and was 1-for-2 in the loss.

The Wood Ducks (18-28) bounced back from a 7-2 game one loss with a shutout victory over the Mudcats (25-21) while evening the series at a game apiece and snapping Carolina's three game winning streak.
Davis worked through four no-hit frames against Carolina and struck out three while walking one. He left the game after reaching 48 pitches (33 strikes) and with his club leading 3-0.
Fiegl (3-0, 1.59) worked the final three innings and allowed McDowell's hit in the fifth, but finished with three strikeouts and faced just 10 over his three innings. Fiegl earned the win and combined with Davis on Carolina's fourth shutout loss of the season.
Marcos Diplan (2-2, 5.50) started for the Mudcats and worked through the fifth with four runs allowed on six hits. He allowed a run scoring single to Josh Altmann in the third, gave up back-to-back home runs to Michael O'Neill and Altmann in the fourth and allowed a sac fly to Ledarious Clark in the fifth. Diplan finished the start with 71 pitches (44 strikes) over five innings and with five strikeouts against two walks.
Altmann was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in the game two victory for the Wood Ducks. O'Neill also had two hits and was 2-for-3 with two runs. 
UP NEXT: The Mudcats and Wood Ducks will wrap up the series on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Grainger Stadium. Right-hander Freddy Peralta will start for the Mudcats, while lefty Wes Benjamin goes for the Wood Ducks. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
The Mudcats will next return home on Friday, May 26 for game one of a short four game home stand versus the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Friday's home game at Five County Stadium on May 26 will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature post-game fireworks presented by the North Carolina Virtual Academy and a Harry Potter theme. 
The next #MudcatsFUN home stand also includes Game of Ponds Night, with a souvenir House Mudcats Banner giveaway for fans ages 14 and under on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday Night Fireworks presented by Sears Home Services on Sunday, May 28. Saturday's game is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start, while Sunday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Zebulon. 
The home stand will conclude on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 with a daytime start at 2:00 p.m. Monday's Memorial Day game will feature the Mudcats playing in patriotic themed game jerseys. The jerseys will later be auctioned off online (auctions.carolinamudcats.com) at the end of the season with the net proceeds benefiting Hire Heroes USA.
