ZEBULON, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (15-33) suffered their sixth consecutive defeat on Friday night as they fell to the Carolina Mudcats (30-17) by a final score of 4-2.
Carolina took the lead in the first inning with an RBI single by David Garcia, making it a 1-0 game.
The Shorebirds quickly answered in the second as Stiven Acevedo beat out a double-play ball to score Anderson De Los Santos, tying the game at one.
The back-and-forth game continued in the third as Miguel Briceno brought home Yhoswar Garcia on an error, putting Carolina back in front 2-1.
Stiven Acevedo delivered another RBI for the Shorebirds in the fourth as he used a sacrifice fly to deep right field to score Anderson De Los Santos for the second time, making it 2-2.
In the fifth, the Mudcats capitalized on a lead-off error and recaptured the lead with a sacrifice fly by David Garcia, plating Daniel Guilarte to put Carolina back in front 3-2.
Blake Money helped keep the game tight for Delmarva as he delivered the longest outing of his career, dealing 5.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run on one hit while striking out six with no walks.
With the score still 3-2 in the seventh, the Mudcats scored an insurance run with an RBI double by Yophery Rodriguez to put Delmarva behind 4-2.
The Shorebirds' bats were stymied late in the game by reliever Jesus Rivero who struck out seven batters across four innings, keeping Delmarva off the scoreboard as Carolina held onto win by a final of 4-2.
Starting pitcher Josh Knoth (1-3) earned the win for Carolina with Blake Money (0-3) taking the loss in relief for the Shorebirds. Jesus Rivero (1) picked up the save.
Delmarva will look to start the month of June with a victory as they send Michael Forret to the mound to face Yorman Galindez for the Mudcats. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
