The Fresno Grizzlies (42-38) blanked Albuquerque 8-0 in the series finale on Tribute To Springfield Night at Chukchansi Park to complete a four-game sweep of the Isotopes (38-41). It's Fresno's first series sweep of the season, and the third time they have shut out an opponent. The Grizzlies have now won seven straight contests (6/23-6/29), their longest win streak of 2017.
Right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-0) made his first Fresno start of 2017 Thursday night. He allowed just one hit through seven scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out seven. The one hit was the only allowed by the Grizzlies in the game, the fewest they have allowed this season. It was also the largest margin of victory for Fresno, the third time they have done so this year.
The Grizzlies broke open the scoring in the fourth frame. Teoscar Hernández walked to get on and scored when Preston Tucker (2-for-4) reached on a fielder's choice. It was Tucker's first RBI of two on the night to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
An 11-batter sixth put the Grizzlies ahead 8-0. Colin Moran (2-for-4) doubled to get on and scored on a Tucker triple for the first run of the inning before Tucker himself scored on a Juan Centeno base hit. Tony Kemp (3-for-5) then tripled to bring home Centeno and Jon Kemmer (walk). The final two runs of the inning were scored on Derek Fisher's team-leading 18th home run of the season. The two-run shot was hit to the batter's eye in center and scored Tyler White (single).
Albuquerque starter Sam Howard (1-1) allowed one run on three hits through five innings. The lefty walked three and struck out five in the loss. Reliever Jerry Vasto allowed the final seven Fresno runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out two.
The Grizzlies head to Sacramento for a four-game series with the River Cats beginning on Friday. RHP Casey Coleman (3-4, 5.91) will start for Fresno and face LHP Madison Bumgarner, making a MLB Rehab start for Sacramento. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
