ZEBULON, N.C. (September 3, 2017) - Despite five shutout frames from Alec Mills on Sunday, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans dropped their third consecutive game to the Carolina Mudcats in a 1-0 defeat from Five County Stadium.
With the contest scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning, Carolina (72-65, 36-33) scored the lone run of the ball game off Myrtle Beach (73-66, 30-39) reliever Dakota Mekkes (5-2). Jose Cuas kicked off the frame with a double to left field before advancing to third on a ground out. Following a Corey Ray walk, Monte Harrison drove home Cuas with a single to give the Mudcats a 1-0 advantage.

Mills shoved five shutout innings for the Pelicans in his second rehab start with Myrtle Beach.
Carolina starter Jordan Yamamoto (9-4) tossed shutout seven shutout frames, striking out seven batters en route to his ninth win of the season. Eric Hanhold tossed a scoreless eighth inning before Nate Griep blanked the Pelicans in the ninth to pick up his league-leading 30th save of the season.
With the 1-0 loss, the Pelicans have now been shutout for the second time in three games.
Myrtle Beach and Carolina will play the finale of both their four-game set and the 2017 regular season on Monday with a 12 p.m. first pitch. The Pelicans will send RHP Oscar De La Cruz (4-2, 3.35 ERA) to oppose LHP Kodi Medeiros (7-9, 5.22 ERA).
