LYNCHBURG, Va. (June 23, 2018) - The Lynchburg Hillcats scored seven unanswered runs Saturday to beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7-2 from Calvin Falwell Field at Lynchburg City Stadium.
With Myrtle Beach (34-38, 0-2) ahead 2-0 in the first inning, Mitch Longo reached second base on a strikeout and wild pitch to start the bottom of the frame. Dillon Persinger followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A double play grounder scored Longo to halve the Birds' lead. Pelicans starter Cory Abbott (1-2) then walked Li-Jen Chu, who scored on Trenton Brooks' RBI double to knot the score at two.

The Hillcats (31-38, 2-0) would take the lead in the second inning. Alexis Pantoja walked and Mitch Longo singled with one out. Two batters later, Conner Capel singled in both runs to put Lynchburg ahead 4-2.
The score remained that way until fifth inning, which was played following a two-hour and 40-minute rain delay. Chu doubled with one out, and two batters after that, Jorma Rodriquez tripled him in. After a hit-by-pitch, an error scored two runs to make it 7-2.
Micah Miniard (2-2) earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Pelicans jumped out to an early lead in their first at-bats. D.J. Wilson walked to begin the ballgame and Aramis Ademan promptly doubled him in. After a foul out, Wladimir Galindo singled home Ademan to make it 2-0.
The finale of Saturday's doubleheader was postponed, so the clubs will wrap up their series with a twin bill at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Coverage begins at 2:45 p.m. on MiLB.tv, MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast, the MiLB First Pitch app and TuneIn.
