Pelicans deliver their second no-no in 10 months

As Hall of Famer Yogi Berra once said, it was "déjà vu all over again."

For the second time in less than a year, Single-A Myrtle Beach tossed a no-hitter. And for good measure, it came against the same opponent. Three Cubs prospects combined on the franchise's third no-no with an 8-0 win over the visiting Fireflies on Sunday night.

Pelicans right-hander Walker Powell faced one over the minimum through five innings before lefty Adam Laskey and righty Jake Reindl closed out the historic night with two innings apiece.

Making the first start of his career following 12 relief appearances, Powell struck out seven, tossed 41 of his 60 pitches for strikes and allowed one baserunner on his own fielding error in the second. The 25-year-old struck out three of the first four batters of the game and closed out his outing by retiring the last 11 hitters he faced. He struck out six and has fanned 25 in 18 innings this season.

Laskey struck out one and issued the only Pelicans walk in two frames before Reindl whiffed four of the six hitters he faced to secure the no-hitter and Powell's MInor League-leading fourth victory.

Myrtle Beach has tossed two no-hitters in just over 10 months after not throwing one since 2012. Four Pelicans pitchers combined to no-hit Columbia last June 23.

Pete Crow-Armstrong extended his hitting streak to eight games with a pair of singles and an RBI. It was the third consecutive multihit effort and eighth in 10 games for the No. 6 Cubs prospect. The 20-year-old stands third in the Carolina League in hitting and improved his slash line to .382/.481/.603 with 15 runs, 14 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 17 games.

No. 7 Cubs prospect Kevin Alcantara went deep for the first time this season, lofting a two-run shot during the Pelicans' six-run fourth.
