Missed opportunities offensively, early pitching struggles spell 7-0 defeat for Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 3, 2018) - The Carolina Mudcats shut out the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7-0 on Thursday night to snap the Pelicans' four-game winning streak and salvage the series from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. 
Carolina (12-15) starter Conor Harber threw 4.1 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and walking three. Daniel Brown (1-2) earned his first win of the season, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Myrtle Beach (11-16) stranded 10 on the basepaths and finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. However, Connor Myers highlighted the offense by reaching base three times and finishing the night 2-for-3. 
Carolina scored four runs in the third inning against Birds starter Bryan Hudson (2-3) to take the early lead. Ryan Aguilar and Keston Hiura knocked in runs on fielder's choices while Ronnie Gideon and Tucker Neuhaus plated tallies with RBI singles. 
The Muddies added on in the sixth, scoring two more on a Pelicans error to make it 6-0. In the eighth, a Dallas Carroll RBI single made it 7-0.
The Pelicans head out on the road next for a six-game road trip beginning with three contests against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Friday's 6:30 p.m. first pitch features RHP Alex Lange  (1-0, 3.43 ERA) against Hillcats RHP Micah Miniard (0-1, 4.73 ERA).
