COLUMBIA, SC – The Fireflies let up 14 runs in the first two innings of Wednesday’s game at Segra Park against the RiverDogs, and ended up dropping the contest 19-10.
It wasn’t without heroics though. Juan Carlos Negret stroked his 22nd homer of the season in the ninth inning to cap off a four RBI night, which gave him 73 on the season, passing Diego Infante for the most in the Low-A East League this season.
Rylan Kaufman (L, 2-4) left the game after allowing five hits and two walks to end up giving way to seven earned runs in just 0.2 innings. It’s the second-shortest outing he has had this season and the second-most runs he has allowed in a single outing. Charleston (73-31) scored nine runs before the end of the first frame.
Columbia’s offense came alive late in the game. The Fireflies (47-57) hit around in the sixth inning with Darryl Collins drawing a bases loaded walk and Juan Carlos Negret moving the runners around with a hit by pitch. Next, a wild pitch scored a third Fireflies run before Herard Gonzalez had an RBI groundout and Enrique Valdez hit his first homer of the season to finish out the frame.
The Fireflies meet the RiverDogs again tomorrow at Segra Park at 7:05 pm. RHP Adrian Alcantara (5-7, 4.73 ERA) takes the hill for the Fireflies and RHP Victor Munoz (0-0, 0.00 ERA) gets the ball for Charleston.
Tomorrow is a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday at Segra Park. All fountain sodas and draft beer are half-priced and Bud Light Pints will be available at the Budweiser Bow Tie Bar for just $2. Tickets are available at FirefliesTickets.com.
