West Virginia (21-19) kickstarted the scoring in the opening frame, as
Moyers (3-3) took the mound with a sizable lead and retired the first six Drive (15-25) hitters that he faced. West Virginia struck for two more in the third inning when Nevarez lasered a double down the left-field line, thrusting the Power ahead 7-0.
Greenville answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but West Virginia pushed the lead back to seven with two more of their own in the fourth against Brayan Bello (1-3) for a 9-2 advantage. The Drive got those runs back with a two-run homer from Alan Marrero that shrunk the lead to 9-4.
Moyers wrapped up his outing with another quality start on the hill, his fifth of the season, after he lasted six innings, surrendered three earned runs and struck out nine. The University of Rhode Island product has now tossed at least six innings in each of his last five starts.
West Virginia added to their lead in the eighth, as Davis came across to score on a wild pitch for the third time on the night.
The Power continues their four-game set with the Drive Saturday night at Fluor Field at the West End, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. RHP
