Torres powers Thunder with timely bat

Gleyber Torres doesn't homer often, but when he does, it's always in a big spot.
The top Yankees prospect slugged a go-ahead two-run blast in the eighth inning Tuesday to propel Double-A Trenton to a 4-2 victory over New Hampshire at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Torres' first long ball of the season was a game-tying three-run jack against Erie on April 29. MLB.com's No. 2 overall prospect also deadlocked the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with a solo shot against Harrisburg.
Following an off day on Monday, Torres came up in the eighth in a 2-2 game with Thairo Estrada on first and nobody out. The 20-year-old worked the count full against reliever Chris Rowley before sending the seventh offering into the left field seats. It marked the first time in Torres' six-year Minor League career that he's in back-to-back contests.

Torres knocked a double to right in the fourth as he continues to hit to all fields. The Venezuela native bumped his slugging percentage to a career-best .475, leading to an .849 OPS in 27 Eastern League games.
Torres' blast made a winner of starter Yefry Ramirez (5-0). The 23-year-old right-hander is tied for the league lead with 41 strikeouts after working around two runs on two hits and two walks with seven punchouts in seven innings. Cale Coshow earned his league-leading ninth save after yielding a hit and fanning one in the ninth.
