In the second game of a double header versus the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) on the road, New York Yankees No. 12 prospect RHP Yoendrys Gómez and RHP Steven Jennings combined for a seven-inning no-hitter. Rodolfo Durán was behind the plate for the milestone and Somerset’s 5-0 win.
"I didn't really want to come out of the game, but I had already complied with the pitch count I had for the start," Gómez told MiLB.com after the game. "[But] we all had confidence in [Jennings], and he was able to get out and achieve the historical moment."
Despite several close calls, the Patriots never had a no-hitter in 21 seasons as an independent team. Most recently, LHP Rick Teasley pitched nine perfect innings in a game on July 26, 2019, but the team ended up losing perfection and the game in the tenth.
Since becoming the Yankees Double-A affiliate in 2021, Somerset has posted two of the rare feats.

The first no-hitter came on August 8, 2021 with Luis Severino starting the game with a perfect four innings on an MLB rehab assignment. RHP Shawn Semple and RHP Ron Marinaccio then finished the historic game at TD Bank Ballpark.
At the time, Semple said, "When I come off the mound, I always wanna go back out there, but I know the plan that they had and they were gonna continue with it because that’s what we did all year. I knew Ron would come in and shut it down."
Semple recently rejoined the Patriots this season after splitting his 2022 campaign between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and High-A Hudson Valley. Marinaccio is one of 16 players to make his MLB debut after time in Somerset and is currently coming out of the bullpen for the Yankees.
Ironically enough, Severino rehabbed again for Somerset on the date of the second no-hitter. The 28-year old Yankees right-hander started game one of the September 7 double header and allowed two runs on four hits and four strikeouts in four innings pitched. He retired the final 10 batters he faced in order in the Patriots 6-2 victory.
Somerset’s pitching coach Gerardo Casadiego told MiLB.com, “Luis Severino is a guy that I've seen grow up throughout the organization. Now he's a big leaguer. He's a part of the rotation in the big leagues, and having him here for one game is such a good opportunity to see how much he has grown in this game."
