Pair of ninth-inning runs not enough in fourth straight loss

MOBILE, Ala. (July 21, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, plated a pair of ninth-inning runs but dropped the third game of the series 4-2 to the Chattanooga Lookouts Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (42-64 overall, 12-15 second half) entered the final frame trailing 4-0, but the first two batters reached base. Troy Montgomery broke up the shutout bid with his first Double-A RBI on a single to right field. Zach Houchins followed with an RBI single off new pitcher Nick Anderson. However, Anderson struck out the final two batters to earn his third save.
For the second time in the series, Chattanooga (64-34, 22-6) scored all of its runs on homers. Andy Wilkins hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, and LaMonte Wade Jr added to the lead with a three-run homer in the seventh.
Tyler Carpenter (1-5) allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts, but he was handed the loss. Dereck Rodríguez (4-1) pitched five scoreless innings for the Lookouts, giving up four hits and striking out six batters.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Chattanooga Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Grayson Long (5-5, 2.76 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Fernando Romero (8-6, 2.82 ERA) for the Lookouts.
