CORPUS CHRISTI – Hooks first baseman/outfielder Norel González was named Double-A Central Player of the Month, Minor League Baseball announced today.
González led the league in RBIs with 22, an on-base percentage of .457 and an OPS of 1.072. His eight doubles ranked second in the circuit while his .359 batting average was third. He also clobbered four home runs.
González’s month was highlighted by a 5-for-5 performance on June 25 against Amarillo in which he had a home run and seven RBIs, leading to an 8-6 Hooks win. In total, he recorded eight multi-hit efforts in the month.
The 27-year-old from Santa Clara, Cuba is making his stateside debut in 2021 after he signed with the Houston Astros as a free agent on January 25.
