GREENEVILLE, TN - The Greeneville Reds (1-1) defeated the Kingsport Mets (1-1) 3-1 Wednesday night at Pioneer Park to even up the series. RHP Orlando Noriega (W, 1-0) surrendered four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Greeneville sent eight to the plate in the bottom of the first, and scored three times. Danielito Remy reached on an error, Tyler Callihan singled, and Danny Lantigua walked to load the bases. RHP Junior Santos (L, 0-1) then hit Raul Juarez to force in Remy. After Santos recorded the first two outs, Gregory Guerrero dropped a pop fly at second base off the bat of Garrett Wolforth, allowing two more runs to score.
After Noriega finished five, RHP Tyler Garbee (H, 1) came on and worked a scoreless sixth inning with a strikeout and a walk. RHP JC Keys (H, 1) pitched a perfect seventh with a pair of strikeouts.
Kingsport scored their lone run in the eighth. After RHP Quentin Sefcik (H, 1) recorded the first out, Jaylen Palmer singled, Wilfred Astudillo reached on an error, and Cole Kleszcz singled to load the bases. Sefcik was then lifted for RHP Dan Serre- ino (S, 1). Scott Ota hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Palmer, to put Kingsport on the board. After a wild pitch moved the tying run to second, Serreino got Guerrero to ground out to end the innings.
In the ninth, Serreino struck out Palmer with the tying run on first to secure the win, and pick up the five out save.
The rubber match will take place in Kingsport Thursday night. RHP Juan Abril will get the ball for Greeneville against LHP Cesar Loaiza. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET.
