Olson makes sweet music for Sounds

Having already reached the Majors, Matt Olson is not lost on the A's list of notable prospects. But producing his best game of the season while playing in Northern California was a pretty good way to get some extra attention.
The A's 15th-ranked prospect went 4-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBIs on Sunday in Triple-A Nashville's 4-0 win over Sacramento at Raley Field.

Olson fell a triple shy of the cycle in his second four-hit game of the season and fourth multi-hit effort in his last 11 games. He went 4-for-5 against New Orleans in his second game back with Nashville after spending a week in The Show.
"It's never a good thing getting sent down. It's always going to be something you're not happy about," Olson said. "But you can't let it affect your play on the field. While you're [in the Majors], it's nice to watch the guys go about their business and learn. They're very precise and very conditioned with what they want to do. It's nice to sit back and watch them and then try and implement it in my own game.
"As far as my mindset now, I'm not doing too much differently. I've been able to stay through the balls better and drive them more lately. It's nice to have a good feel and flow at the plate and not be up there thinking too much. I'm in a good spot and that helped me today."

The Sounds' No. 3 hitter went the unconventional route for his first hit, laying down a bunt single in the first inning. Olson cashed in the first two runs of the game in third. With two outs and nobody on, A's No. 21 prospect Jaycob Brugman walked and top prospect Franklin Barreto doubled him to third. Olson followed with another double to right field for a 2-0 lead.
The Atlanta native singled to left leading off the sixth but was erased on a double play. Olson led off the eighth with his 10th homer, sending an opposite-field shot over the left-field wall. It was the fifth time in his career he collected four or more hits in a game. He had a career-best five-hit game for Class A Advanced Stockton on June 19, 2014.
"The key is finding what routine works for you and sticking with it," said Olson, who has six homers and 15 RBIs in his last 11 games, "how you approach your work in the [batting] cage and what you do in the game and then keeping that going. You hope to stick to it and try and repeat that good feeling as much as possible and not get down if something feels off."
Sounds starter Jharel Cotton (2-0) was dominant in his second start since returning from Oakland. The 25-year-old allowed three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings. 

"Jharel is great. He's got special, special stuff," Olson said. "I would have said the same thing in the past when I faced him when he was on the Dodgers. He's got a solid arsenal of pitches and he looked really good out there today."
A's No. 4 prospect Matt Chapman doubled and singled for his third multi-hit game in six contests.
