BOWLING GREEN- The Asheville Tourists bounced back in a big way Wednesday night. One night after suffering a shutout loss, the Tourists jumped on the Bowling Green Hot Rods early and outslugged the home team for a 16-9 win. Seven players in the Asheville lineup had two hits or more while all nine logged at least one.
Michael Sandle’s RBI double in the top of the first opened the scoring. Freudis Nova and Kobe Kato worked back-to-back bases loaded walks and Justin Williams capped the five-run first with a two-run single to center.
Tommy Sacco Jr. clubbed a three-run Homer in the second inning and Logan Cerny drove in a run with a single in the third. The Tourists led 9-0 after three. Bowling Green used a pair of Home Runs in the fourth inning but Tim Borden II answered with a solo blast in the fifth.
After the Hot Rods added two more in the bottom of the fifth, Asheville rallied to score three more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Clifford launched a three-run Home Run in the ninth; his 11th of the season.
Nolan DeVos was credited with his first win at the High-A level despite allowing a three-run Home Run in the eighth. DeVos and the starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, each struck out four.
Sacco Jr., Cerny, and Nova led the way with three hits apiece while Kato, Borden II, Clifford, and Williams all had two. The 16 runs scored is tied for the second most Asheville has put up in a game this season.
